Dreams do come true
After a 30-year wait, countless close runs, and a 3-month delay thanks to Covid-19, Liverpool Football Club were finally crowned champions of English football in 2020, with a record-breaking seven games in hand and a 23-point lead.
There is strength in being part of a ‘Club’ and following their beliefs
A famous Liverpool song is ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and in this song, it talks about dreams being ‘tossed and blown’ but ‘walk on with hope in your heart and you’ll never walk alone’. Even during the biggest disappointments, this Club has had (and will I’m sure suffer in the future), the fans sing this song as they know if we have faith and hope, there will always be better days.
Your past does not equal your future
Despite having incredible success in the ’70s and ‘80’s Liverpool went through a long barren patch in the EPL and had average results for a long time. As in business, just because you have had success in your past, does not mean you are guaranteed success in the future.
All ‘Clubs’ need a good leader
Despite the history of Liverpool Football Club and its access to numerous resources, it needed the enthusiasm, inspiration, and drive of its manager, Jurgen Klopp, to create a new future for the Club
Success in business rarely comes quickly
The owners of Liverpool FC (Fenway Sports Group) bought the Club 10 years earlier but despite being in a league where there is a short term winning emphasis, they stuck to their long term goals and plans that eventually paid dividends.
How the popularity of the EPL has grown in the United States over the last 30 years
Mainly thanks to the extensive TV coverage it now receives, the number of American ‘scouse’ supporters appears to exponentially grow each year. When, (pre-covid) you are in a USA bar at 8.30 in the morning with over 150 other American Liverpool supporters all dressed in some form of red, watching a game in the EPL, you know the sport has arrived.
It’s only a game
Although Soccer (and all sport) can give you the highest ‘highs’ but also provide the lowest ‘lows’, we should always remember it is only a game. As a famous manager of Liverpool once said, “Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.”
